A new apparel drive system has been developed for a new 12-meter boat using linear actuators instead of an electric winch, rollers, and cables.

Both systems have their advantages and disadvantages.

In particular, the electric winch drive system is inexpensive, but requires the selection of special rigging rollers, which are not always available. The slightest error in the installation location and angle leads to cable misalignment and subsequent jamming. There is also a dangerous situation when the apparel is fully raised against the hull, but the electric winch continues to operate. The cable becomes overtight, ripping out the rigging rollers, and the drive fails. To avoid this, a special circuit breaker must be installed.

As a result, despite its relatively low cost, the electric winch drive system requires more time for installation and constant increased attention during operation.
At the same time, a linear actuator drive system is significantly more expensive, and this is its only disadvantage. Other advantages include: quick installation; silent operation; fast apparel lowering and raising; easy-to-use control unit and panel; and last but not least, reliability.
